Teaching plan for Pinocchio

Teaching objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students are expected to

  1. get the main idea and the main plot of the story.

  2. learn two reading strategies and try to use them in reading The wind in the willows.

  3. learn and apply the ways to analyse the personalities of characters based on the facts such as words, actions,inner thoughts,etc.

  4. find out the factors that makes Pinocchio a real boy.

    Teaching difficulties:

  5. Students learn to analyze the main characterspersonalities based on the relevant materials.

  6. Students can learn the two reading strategies and put them into practice correctly in reading.

    Teaching important points:

  7. Students can grasp the process of Pinocchios being a real boy .

  8. Students can master the theme of the story with the development of the plot.

  9. Students learn and apply the reading strategies in reading The wind in the willows.

Step 1.Revision the main ideas

T show Ss some pictures about each chapter to review the main idea of the book.

Ss review the main idea of each chapter of the book by answering some questions.of the book the book.

Help Ss  review the main idea of each chapter to have a general understanding of the book.

Step2 Pair work

Ask ss to introduce the main idea of one chapter with the help of their mind maps to their partners.

T concludes the reading strategy.

 

Ss introduce their mind maps to their partners.

Ss introduce their mind maps to their partners.and learn the first reading strategy:Using a mind map for the plot.

Step 3:Discussion

Ask ss to discuss “Which character impressed you most?

Why?”

T concludes the reading strategy.

Ss work in pairs or groups to discuss the question “Which character impressed you most?Why?” and present their opinions.

Ss discuss their most impressive characters and give the supporting information to lay a foundation of content for the following writing task.

Step 4:Writing

Ask ss to Write one or two paragraphs to  introduce the most impressive character in the story.

Ss Write one or two paragraphs to  introduce the most impressive character with the help of the incomplete article.

Ss consolidate their understanding of the most impressive characters through writing and learn the second  reading strategy:base opinions of characters on the related facts.

Step5:Further thinking

Encourage ss to think about the question : What do you think helps Pinocchio become a real boy?

Invite ss to air their viewpoints.

Ss work in pairs to discuss the question:What do you think helps Pinocchio become a real boy?

Elicit ss to find out the theme of the story by discussing the question and giving the relevant  evidence.

Step6:Homework

1.Introduce your favorite chapter of the story with your mind map.

2.Try to use the reading strategies you learned today in reading The wind in the willows.

3.Give another possible ending of the story.

Ss finish the homework after class.

Ss finish the homework to strengthen their understanding the theme of the story better and improve their abilities to apply reading strategies.
